After 130 years as a private, four-year institution, Intermont College ceased operations in 2014. Happily, the renowned equestrian program continues as Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College. In 2017, the College hired Blackburn Architects to develop a Feasibility Study and Master Plan, examining the existing facility to determine the practicality of renovations to improve the program’s appearance and functionality, and the creation of a strategic business plan to do so. The project includes new barns, indoor arenas, academic equine studies and research center, new pastures, new service structures, and more.
Sustainable development practices were an important component of the work. The College intends to limit the environmental impact and promote the long-term health of the site, structures, and the occupants of the equestrian facility.
